New Light Christian Center Church to Acquire Lakewood Church’s Northeast Campus for $15 Million

HOUSTON (Oct. 17, 2005) -- New Light Christian Center Church and Lakewood Church are finalizing the terms of a $15 million sale of Lakewood Church's Northeast Houston campus.

New Light Christian Center Church, lead by Drs. I. V. and Bridget Hilliard, serves over 20,000 congregants at four campuses in north and south Houston, Beaumont, Texas and Austin, Texas.  New Light Church's acquisition of Lakewood's Northeast campus will expand their ministry to three Houston area locations to serve their vast congregation.

The facility will be used as their new east location church campus, a Vocational Bible Institute, and an interdenominational Christian youth camp and conference center called L.O.V.E. City USA.

The Hilliards will dedicate a chapel in the facility to honor the legacy of the late Pastor John Osteen.

The acquisition of Lakewood Northeast is a component of New Light Church’s historic community development plan called The Canaan Project which was recently launched.  The Canaan Project involves the building of new worship centers in Beaumont, Texas and Austin, Texas, two senior citizen apartment complexes, two housing subdivisions, and a 100-unit apartment complex for families where occupants will receive life skills education and can save for home ownership, and a new facility for Life Change Institute for Men, a free residential drug rehabilitation program.

The sale of Lakewood's Northeast location became possible earlier this year in July when Lakewood Church moved into its new home, the recently renovated Compaq Center.

New Light Christian Center Church and Lakewood Church are excited about this transition of Lakewood Church's former home and are looking forward to completion of the sale in the spring of 2006.
