On Saturday, Councilman Byron Lee launched another year "School Uniform Giveaway" to families that are financially disadvantage. This clothing giveaway initiative is designed to meet the critical needs of inner city youth that are challenge and at risk.

Nearly a hundred disadvantage children will be returning to school with happy faces, wearing new school uniforms, as a part of Councilman Byron Lee and the Jefferson Sports and Scholastic Foundation efforts to get these kids off to a fresh start. Councilman Lee and the JSSF have been doing this program since the inception of his administration four years ago.

Councilman Lee says he is very sensitive to the needs of the children, especially where it affect their education, self-esteem, or putting them at risk to the criminal world as result of poverty.

“I’m a firm believer that education will always be the key to a strong society, and without that, we have a potential for a vicious cycle to continue”

Moreover, Byron Lee pledge to continue his efforts to see that an equal playing field is made for financially disadvantaged families. He especially believes that he should do all that he can to prevent the children of his district from becoming truants on the first day of school, because of the lack of school supplies or clothing.

Byron Lee is campaigning to secure the 2nd Congressional District seat, and promises to continue working to see that living conditions for all are on an equal field. He vows to remain a servant leader as congressman, fighting for the people and supporting the causes that will improve the lives of many that are still in post Katrina/Rita recovery.

One thing for sure, he brings a warm smile. He embraces those hurting and encouraging all to aspire for better. Most importantly, he hasn't forgotten about his community, or the children, and he backs it up with his deeds. That says a lot about the man. He is known as a man of action and “he gets the job done”.
