NEW ORLEANS (9/8/09) Sweet Lorraine's Jazz Club hosted its first annual "Sweet Lorraine's Community Jazz Festival"; an all day music extravaganza this past Saturday and Sunday, September 5 & 6, 2009. Although the festival began with some unforeseen early morning rain on both days, the sunshine would later brighten up the day for festival promoter Paul Sylvester, owner of Sweet Lorraine and visitors. The event opened up with the traditional jazz of New Orleans, and ending with the tradition Black Men of Labor Second Line Parade, which was held on Sunday.
The Community Festival was a celebration of Sweet Lorraine's Jazz Club 10th anniversary, and Sylvester's family more than sixty years in the entertainment business. Paul Sylvester, Jr. gave a special tribute to his late parents, Paul & Lorraine Sylvester. The weekend actually kicked off on Friday with a patron party and Jazz Concert featuring Norman Connors and the Stephanie Jordan Big Band in which Jordan did a special rendition the song "Sweet Lorraine" which had been a favorite of Paul's parents.
Gralen Banks, Sweet Lorraine's host, joined Sylvester in an interview with NOLA.Tv and discussed some of the many challenges they faced in the aftermath of hurricanes' Katrina and Rita. They both share an appreciation for the resilience of the people of New Orleans to come back and rebuild. Sylvester indicated his commitment to helping to rebuild New Orleans and his families' business, and look forward to the next "Sweet Lorraine's Community Jazz Festival"
