John Georges began to entertain the idea of running for mayor less than a year ago, by putting a team together that would help him to identify, how he may be able to best structure his platform for governance. In late September it was becoming more obvious that he may run, but he needed to get all of his ducks lined up before making any announcement. More importantly, so that he would be well received by the people when he does so.
After careful preparation, he officially announced his candidacy at Lil Dizzy's Restaurant. This was one of many steps made to prepare him for the race. His war chest had already reached a nearly a million dollars of contributions, without him using a dime of his own money. Shortly after, billboards and signs went up, brochures, mail outs and handbills were delivered, and his street was team eager to push his literature all the way to City Hall.
There was only a couple of minor, yet important details to be finalize, John had show up at the court house to submit his paperwork to qualify for the position of mayor of New Orleans. Upon his completion, and swearing to abide to state voting rules, he was signed in as an official candidate. He wasted no time to get to the steps of the courthouse to the media to reaffirm his position and platform for becoming mayor. "The city is looking for change, and I'm offering the type of change they're looking for"
However, surprisingly, Lieutenant Governor, Mitch Landrieu, who had vowed not to enter the race, had change of heart only weeks earlier. This would change the race completely. Due to the Landrieu's high profile family, which includes his sister U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu and his father, a former mayor of New Orleans that was well liked by most of his constituent, especially in the African American community for the many jobs his extended to Blacks through employment at City Hall.
This would change the focus of every candidate vying for the spot. They're strategy would practically call for a 360 turn, although many may not acknowledge it, as they all put on their gloves to battle out with whomever opted to entered the fight.
John was quick to address the issue of old politics wasn't what the citizens had in mind for a New - New Orleans and that politician have had a failed government for too long, and it was time for citizens like himself to step up and get things done.
