Mayoral election results in New Orleans are often tallied late into the night before final results are made. More so, before any early predictions, that would indicate winners and losers. However, this was not the case for electing mayor of New Orleans on Saturday night when Mitch Landrieu, who many thought would be n a runoff with one of the other favored candidate causing a late night frenzy and edge-of-seat election phobia. Surprisingly, Landrieu pulled off an unprecedented landslide victory of 66%, that caused many opponent to concede before the dinner dishes were put away.
On Sunday morning, Mayor-Elect Mitch Landrieu, got right to work with a press conference to solidify his campaign agenda, and affirm to the citizens of Orleans and neighboring parishes that his administration would focus on unifying our communities and reducing the number one challenge to us all, crime. However, he could not venture to far, without mentioning the New Orleans Saints in the Super Bowl, and what it means to the city and region. “This is more than a football game, but a symbol of New Orleans picking itself back up to do fantastic things.”
He went on to say that the people where prepared to come together and find high common ground and start getting things done. Consequently, improving the lives of the people of the city, region and America. The people of New Orleans want to speak with One Voice, One Fight, as One Team and One City.
He now has the task of defining the transition for his newly elected position as mayor, as he closes out his office of Lieutenant Governor and transition it to an appointment of the governor.
